About Glass Menagerie - About the Artists - Where to Find us

About Glass Menagerie
We are a group of three artists who have come together to combine fusing, lampworking, and glass blowing into wearable jewelry and art. We are members of the Kentucky Crafted Organization as well as the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsman and the Louisville Artisan Guild.

We primarily work with Dichroic glass, which is actually a mixed medium of metal oxide films applied to glass in a high temperature vacuum furnace.
The Dichroic film refracts (transmits) some light depending on the angle while reflecting others. This creates an interference-effect similar to the iridescence observed in naturexs fire opal, dragonfly wings and hummingbird feathers. The transmitted color is different than the reflected color, and viewing the dichroic piece at a 45º angle produces a third color. The resulting colors often affect each other within the piece of dichroic glass and allow the piece to shimmer in even low levels of light.
